The only state in the country that does not know much of Hindi or that does not appreciate Hindi as a language is Tamilnadu. Have you ever wondered why? Here are a few things to ponder upon.
When all the other states learned Hindi, why did Anna and Karunanidhi always oppose and show black flags to it? Is to praise and preserve Tamil? Well, I personally do not thing so and I plead that you read my opinion about this issue. One did not see the disappearance of any other language or dialect because of the spread of Hindi in India. So, the plea that Tamil must be preserved and so there should not be Hindi learning is a false one. So what could be the real reason?
When Tamilnadu can appreciate learning and using ENGLISH ( a dull foreign language ), a language that was taught to us by the oppressors of our country, way back 100 years, why can't it accept HINDI, a beautiful language that emerged in this soil?
One cannot use the phrase "Unity in Diversity" if one cannot accept a common language that all other parts of the country has accepted.
Did you know that M. Karunanidhi, the one who claims to be the living soldier of the Dravidian movement has got all his children and grandchildren educated in English and also Dhayanidhi Maran learned Hindi while he is always speaking to the people about how Tamil should be given importance and how the other languages must be pulled down?
In fact, when you are in a country, is it not unwise to launch a movement like "DRAVIDIAN" movement that concerns only a little part of the country instead of an "Indian Upliftment Movement?".
Though we are still not under the Brutal British rule, we are still governed by the policy of divide and rule by these great leaders. Where is unity when you create a divide amongst the north and the south? How can one expect to tolerate and accept you when you cannot tolerate and accept them?
It is too simple, by keeping away Hindi, the regional parties can keep other national parties away from the public so that they do not get so much competition and the vote bank will never ever be divided.
If Tamils learn Hindi, they would be easily taken into the Northern civilisation and there would be an exchange in Ideas and things would grow. The vigor of the people in north and the analytical mind of the south could combine and create a better world where these so called great goon leaders would not have a place to be.
When I started travelling around the country, I was able to reflect upon this issue and I seriously think that every single Tamil must learn Hindi also so that we do not oppose anyone and neither would anyone have a prejudice against us in the country. What if you cannot learn it at school? when we are able to learn Spanish, German and French from foreign institutes set up in India by paying so much fees, why can't we learn Hindi and prove our patriotism to India?
We are Indians first of all and then we are Tamils. So please do not be against Hindi and do not be devoured in the drama these so called DRAVIDIAN leaders put up.
I would like to receive some comments on this guys!
PS: I am not Anti Tamizh! I am Indian and I love Thamizh as well. I appreciate and welcome the fact that court proceedings and TN government proceedings should be in Thamizh but my point here is that we can learn Hindi when we can learn English. In fact many have picked up a vogue to rite a stupid English test worth 12000 INR to get into some foreign Univs for an MS. Many invest thousands of Rupees to learn Japanese, French and German in TN. Why not learn Hindi? Why hate something that many Indian like?

DeleteWe Tamilians have a unique psyche within us which is blindly accepting the dominant language. For example in times of Nayak/Maratha rule in Thanjavur, Tamil was sidelined and only during that period it was heavily mixed with sanskrit and telugu derived words.Pure Tamil was forgotten and Telugu became court /royal language for governmental purpose. The same has happened with English too. No other natives would speak in a different language other than us. Am sure no one can deny it. We have a ingrained inferiority complex about our language and thats what causing such an behaviour. Btw dont forget that Hindi is just a made up language and dont use adjectives like beautiful to it. Hindi is a language of Chance. We must adopt the policy of Quebec province of Canada wherein they follow French in a English dominated Canada. Learning Hindi is just for our convenience and it is not a pill for all problems. And we got to be really happy if this Anti-Hindi policy has kept National parties out of our state as they would have put our state to sale as they have done in Andhra and Karnataka. We atleast sustain with our own brand of social liberalism which has made us achieve excellent human indicators without sacrificing development as it had happened in communist Kerala. Feel proud for our Policy and dont moan that we arent taught hindi for Hindi is an illusion that government perpetrates as if it would lead to National integration. Lets cut the shit, move on with our policies, " USE " Hindi and not "FALL IN LOVE " with that language .
ReplyDeleteNo other native would speak in different language even when interacting with each other. We have a penchant for learning dominant language and behave like them. This has been seen in Sanskritization of various clans in Tamil nadu. So we taking up English in a bigway blindly can be attributed to this mentality of us. But none of this warrant learning Hindi as if its a Magic pill which can turn us into some heavenly beings. Our fisher men when getting shot by Srilankan army will only be reported as " Tamil Fishermen " and not " Indian Fishermen".
ReplyDeleteOkay... first of all....
DeleteThe difference between the Nayak Rule and democracy must be understood. Tamil could be sidelined because of monarchy. But no one could sideline any language in any part of the country now. You should also understand that my opinion that I have been advocating is to learn HINDI and of course it is beautiful THAN English as I have mentioned earlier, for there are no anomalies in spelling and pronunciation. It is very much evident that words have been borrowed but that would have happened if there was no Nayak rule that imposed the speaking of Telugu, for all languages grow their vocabulary by borrowing words. I will tell you why Hindi is beautiful in another way: It helps bringing people closer and it is of Indian origin (when all the invasions were enough, when all the people of the Indian subcontinent were fed up with foreign rule and war, we were ready for a new concept called India and I respect it and that is why anything that is swadeshi seems beautiful to me) though it was a MADE UP language that is why. Moreover, even the imposition of a different court language did not hinder us from speaking tamil today nor did it make the PURE TAMIL vanish. Though pure Tamil is available today DO YOU USE IT? DID YOU LEARN IT? CAN YOU USE IT? Well you cannot, for that is not practical at all while the existing one is easier to use. But it does not mean that the Purity is lost completely. Any language for that matter is pure only on paper and print. Quebec was colonised by the French and most of the people who are living there can trace back to ancestors of France who are native french speakers. Likewise, There are native spanish speakers in America who hold US citizenship and those state governments use Spanish as one of the working languages. That is a different issue because those countries have a profile and something called as an Identity only after the Beginning of Modern age unlike the Greece, British, Rome or India for that matter!!!! It is a must, not for convenience sake, but for a variety of reasons. It will promote unity. I will give an example. I am currently in an atmosphere of people from different languages like Bengali, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Haryandvi, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil. There is one thing that I have noticed in these 6 weeks I have been in this environment. Telugu, Malayalee have made real good friendship with the Punjabis and Bengalis while the Tamils have always flocked with the Tamils alone. Why so? All the others speak a common tongue apart from their mother tongue that is Indian in Origin.
English is not native to us. When 95% speaks an Indian language to express their Indian feelings and Indian thinking, they all gang up. Indian feelings can never be expressed properly through a foreign language because no matter we try, score well in GRE crap and all that, in practice, no Indian can speak English comfortably. So learning Hindi would give us an enterprise, a bond, closness whose non existence you might think not as problem, but I do. With my half baked Hindi, I find that more people talk to me than those who know nothing but Tamil and English. When you are within India, learning Hindi and using it would help improve our relationships nationwide. You should be ashamed to point out to a third party selling off your property. This is democracy and we must get the opportunity to listen to all the policies and choose the best. Your statement that learning Hindi and the opening of gates to the national parties could have ruined the state indirectly says that you are not confident about the Tamil's understanding and their decision making ability to choose the government that they want and it also hints out that you are okay if a native tongue speaker eats away your hard earned money no matter if that is larger than any other Hindi speaker; kind of too racist don't you think? So you feel okay that RAJA ate so much from the economy because he is a tamil and you would have been agitated if it was someone who spoke Hindi? Learning and using Hindi or even LOVING it for that matter would not change the conservative way we tamils have been thinking and we would have still earned a good human development Index, for the state is good only because of the Mindset of the people. Definitely a Tamil need not speak any other language to another Tamil. but learning Hindi is for national integration.
DeleteAnd finally, Fishermen of India are being referred to as Tamil Fishermen only because it is Liberation for Tamil Eezham that Srilanka is furious about and not some Indian Eezham and because when Indian government wants to train Srilankan air force men in the country, the chief minister does not want it to be done at Tamilnadu but she is ok if that is being done elsewhere in India. That is because our political parties have not allowed us to integrate ourself into the Nation (proof - your own comments that show how you are not ready to accept a swadeshi language and criticize its origin) and have always tried to keep us away from feeling Indian and using the language as the best weapon against national integration and for their benefit of an undivided vote bank! Jai Hind! Vaazhga Thamizh, VaLarga Thamizh. To conclude, this is something that I want all those of you who say that it is difficult for a Tamil to speak native Hindi because the languages are so different, How many native Thamizhs can pronounce the "ZHAGAZHAM" of Thamizh properly?

DeleteDear Anand Kumar ji,
DeleteI had read your comment earlier but was not in a position to reply. But when I finally got my laptop, I see that you have removed your comment? I am just advocating that one need not kill a language to know another one. I am trying to say that English could be substituted. We are not a country like the USA where each state has its own rights. We had accepted that we will all be 1! One must not HATE and CHASE AWAY a language. When people pay 12000 Rs to take up GRE to go abroad and do MS, they could take time to learn Hindi and make the country more homogenous. Thats my argument if you have had problems in understanding the same! Battle it out here if you can! Removing your comments exhibits instability and showcases your own inability to stick to your thought processes!
i love hindi hindi or sirf hindi
